The"dip stick" horizontal gauge is actually digital (steps) and not analog (like a real dipstick). There are 6 steps/segments from "full" to "add" but the steps are not marked on the gauge. Each step = 8.8 oz so 52.8 oz from full to add (or 1.65 quarts). When the oil level drops below the 1.65 quart add mark, you get the warning light.

Alfaused the same dipstick from 82 to 93. I have an 82 in the shop. Same dipstick as yours. Its has 2 holes that were drilled then welded up and sanded down. Then 2 other holes drilled. I also pulled a dipstick out of an 88 motor. The drilled holes in the 82 dipstick match up the drilled holes in the 88 dipstick.
